The year is off to a flying start over on Apple TV+ thanks to a bevy of blockbuster shows like Criminal Record and Masters of the Air, and the streamer is showing no signs of slowing down. On Monday (February 5), it unveiled its upcoming slate of new series that are set to launch through to the summer.

Apple TV+ dropped a truly tantalising sizzle reel at the Television Critics Association’s 2024 winter press tour, showcasing some of the stellar content launching this year. Alongside previously announced shows like The New Look and Constellation, new highlights include a Colin Farrell-led noir detective series, a gripping legal thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal and a Natalie Portman crime drama.

All of this new content is available to stream with an Apple TV+ membership, which TV lovers can join for £8.99 a month. But if they sign up today, members can enjoy Apple TV+’s stellar film and TV library without paying a penny thanks to its seven-day free trial.

This gives free access to hit shows like Godzilla spin-off Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and Steven Spielberg and Gary Oldman comedy crime-drama Slow Horses, plus blockbuster films like Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-nominated epic Killers of the Flower Moon. Alongside the newly announced shows, 2024 will also see the return of hit shows The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy, The Big Door and Loot.

The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin – March 1

Manhunt – March 15

Based on James L. Swanson’s bestselling nonfiction book, this conspiracy thriller centres around one of the best-known but least understood crimes in history, the hunt for John Wilkes Booth in the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. It stars Tobias Menzies as Edwin Stanton, an American lawyer and politician who led the search for Booth, who is played by Anthony Boyle.

Palm Royale – March 20

As she attempts to cross the line between the haves and have-nots, Palm Royale asks how far we are willing to go to get what someone else has?

Sugar – April 5

Colin Farrell fronts this contemporary and unique take on the private detective story as private investigator John Sugar. The Los Angeles-set noir series follows Sugar on the heels of the mysterious disappearance of a legendary Hollywood producer’s granddaughter.

As he tries to determine what happened, Sugar will also unearth their family secrets – some very recent, others long-buried. Also starring is Amy Ryan, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, James Cromwell and Anna Gunn.

Franklin – April 12

Screen legend Michael Douglas stars in this 1776-set drama as Benjamin Franklin. Inspired by true events, it follows the 70-year-old Franklin as he embarks on a secret mission to France with the fate of American independence hanging in the balance.

The series is based on the Pulitzer-winning A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America and also stars A Quiet Place’s Noah Jupe.

Dark Matter – May 8

This sci-fi-thriller – based on the 2016 novel of the same name – follows Chicago-based Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton), a physicist, professor and family man who is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the mind-bending landscape of lives he could have lived.

Presumed Innocent – June 14

Abrams and based on the New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, this legal thriller stars Jake Gyllenhaal as chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich. The limited series takes viewers on a gripping journey through a horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s office when one of its own is suspected of the crime.

The series explores obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together. Its star-studded ensemble cast also includes Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, Elizabeth Marvel, Peter Sarsgaard, O-T Fagbenle and Renate Reinsve.

Land of Women – Summer

To escape the dangerous criminals to whom Gala’s now vanished husband is indebted, the three women hide in the same charming wine town in northern Spain that Gala’s mother fled 50 years ago, vowing never to return.

The women seek to start anew and hope their identities will remain unknown, but gossip in the small town quickly spreads, unravelling their deepest family secrets and truths.

Lady in the Lake – TBC

One of the most intriguing shows teased by Apple is this Natalie Portman crime-drama, an adaptation of Laura Lippman’s New York Times best-selling novel of the same name. The limited series takes place in 1960s Baltimore, where an unsolved murder pushes housewife and mother Maddie Schwartz (Portman) to reinvent her life as an investigative journalist, leading her to examine the mysterious death and identity of a young black woman the town has seemingly forgotten.
