Love Island star Amy Day is one of the many former contestants who has backed the new social media ban.

The ITV2 show recently revealed they will no longer allow contestants to use their social media platforms during the series in a major new shake-up of the rules.

Islanders’ accounts will remain dormant while they're looking for love in the South African villa.

Their new protocol comes after many years of former contestants struggling to deal with online trolling and death threats.

And now, season seven star Amy said she backed the new change and declared it a 'fantastic move' on the producers' part.

"I think it's a great idea. I think it's really good," she told the Mirror . "And I've kind of seen a lot in the press about it. And past Islanders, I think we all agree it's a good idea."

Speaking of the endless trolling that occurs online with past Islanders, she added: "It was horrendous and I don't think that's fair for them [the trolls] to do that.

"Especially when it's such an early stage in the show when you're just getting to know people.

"I don't think people should be able to say things, and such horrendous things, so early on. So yeah, I think it's a fantastic move."

Islanders’ accounts will remain dormant while they are in the villa and nothing can be published on their behalf.

In the past contestants' family or friends have been responsible for sharing content on the stars' social media accounts while they're on the show.

Faye Winter, who appeared on the same season of Love Island as Amy, previously said she 'absolutely' agrees with the new rules.

The 27-year-old said the decision is 'necessary to protect' the people running the new stars' accounts.

She took part in anInstagramQ&A and admitted it is a 'shame' there had to be such drastic changes in the policy due to online trolling.

"For the welfare of my family and friends ABSOLUTELY but I do think what a b****y shame," she said.

"All because narrow-minded people genuinely believe they can judge, torment and bully others based on a 45-minute show which is highly edited and each person probably gets 8 minutes of airtime"

She added: "Sad when you think about it but absolutely necessary to protect their innocent darling heads – people will moan and it will be those that caused it. [sic].

"In the famous words of all parents, you only have yourselves to blame you big knuckleheads."
