Brianna Ghey's killer's 6 chilling words as she weeps while arrested for murder

A Brianna Ghey murderer uttered six words to police officers as she was arrested for killing the transgender teenager, newly released police bodycam footage reveals.

Scarlett Jenkinson is heard saying "how come I am a suspect" as she was arrested over the murder of Brianna Ghey.

She and Eddie Ratcliffe, both then 15, were arrested ‘simultaneously’ at their homes the day after Brianna, 16, was found dead in Culcheth Linear Park near Warrington. And Ratcliffe said to police ‘I can explain’ after they turned up at his doorstep.

Brianna had been stabbed 28 times in a merciless attack, which had followed weeks of planning by the pair. But police soon identified them as suspects and arrested them both at their homes.

Footage taken from officers’ body worn cameras has now been released after the pair were sentenced for Brianna’s murder. Jenknson was arrested at her home on Glebeland in Culcheth at 7.32pm on February 12 last year, while Ratcliffe was held at his home on Imperial Drive, in Leigh at 7.34pm, their trial at Manchester Crown Court heard. Both were arrested on suspicion of murder.

The officer who arrested Jenkinson said she was standing at the top of the stairs when he entered the property. "I immediately arrested her on suspicion of murder due to the information that I had received," PC Rigby said.

He said that Jenkinson replied: "Am I a suspect as I was the last person to see her alive?" PC Rigby said that Jenkinson was taken to a police station and remained 'under constant observation'.

In the body worn video, Jenkinson was seen to be arrested at the top of the stairs of the property before being led down to the kitchen by officers. In the kitchen, she was heard to give officers the PIN number to her phone. Jenkinson confirmed she has never been arrested before, and told officers she was 15-years-old.

After being cautioned, she asked police: "Me being a suspect, is it cos I’m the last person to seen her?" The officer replied: "I don't know all, all the information I've received is that you are a suspect for the murder."

At about 5pm that day, her mother had called the police after Jenkinson had told her that she’d been with Brianna the day before. She had lied to her mother, claiming that Brianna had ‘stormed off’ while they had been in the park together.

Jenkinson claimed that Brianna had told her that she was going to meet a ‘17-year-old from Manchester’. Ratcliffe was found upstairs at his home by police when they attended. He was initially seen handcuffed and on knees.

After being cautioned, Ratcliffe said 'yeah' and then said 'words to the effect of I can explain', an officer at the scene said. The pair were both convicted of murder following a four week trial, which concluded on December 20. Their identities can now be revealed, after a court order prohibiting them from being named was lifted by a judge.
