Rescuers came to the aid of six dolphins stranded on an Anglesey beach yesterday. The Cemaes Bay Coastguard and medics from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue spent hours helping the common dolphins at Gorad Beach, Valley.

The Cemaes Bay Coastguard posted on Facebook : "Something a bit different today we assisted volunteers from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue Medics who had spent the whole day saving 6 common dolphins that had got stuck on the beach."

They added: "The amazing volunteers spent the whole day monitoring and assisting them until they managed to swim back out to sea with the evening high tide. If you do come across anything like this please don't approach but call 01825 765546 (24/7)."

They also reminded people: "Remember, if you, or if you should see anyone in danger around our coastline or at sea then please call 999 and ask for the Coastguards."

On land, dolphins are helpless and can die within a few hours or days if they are not rescued or properly looked after. In some areas of the world, including Europe, dolphins that strand are usually on their own, with the majority being old, sick or wounded.

Sea animals, including whales, dolphins, and cetaceans are considered stranded when found dead, either on a beach, or dead floating in the water, or alive on a beach and unable to get back to the water.
