A former member of Donald Trump's administration is fighting for his life after being shot during a carjacking in Washington DC.
Mike Gill worked at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission under Trump. The man was attacked on Monday evening, during a wave of criminal carjackings going on in the area.
His family confirmed that the incident took place around 5.45pm on Monday, January 29, when a suspect got into Gill's car, shot him, and then fled the scene.
A spokesperson for Gill described him as an "amazing" husband, father, friend and colleague, adding: "He has a wonderful sense of humour, no matter the situation. He makes friends with everyone - and is always looking for opportunities to bring people together and make them feel included and loved."

The suspected gunman was shot and killed by New Carrollton police officers days later (Metropolitan Police Department)The Metropolitan Police Department said Gill's carjacking was one of many in a recent wave of violent armed carjackings across DC and Maryland. Just two hours later, police confirmed that the same gunman tried to carjack another person nearby.
About 10 minutes after his encounter with Gill, the gunman reportedly approached two people on the pavement and demanded their car at gunpoint. He allegedly shot one man before nicking his car, a 2016 Chrysler 200, and zoomed off. The man who was shot sadly died in a nearby hospital, according to FOX 5.
Police said the stolen Chrysler 200 was found in a local park in Prince George's County, Maryland. Authorities reckon the suspect ditched the vehicle before he stole a Toyota Camry from another driver.
After leaving the Camry behind, the alleged car thief ordered a rideshare pickup and nicked the driver's Nissan Rogue. Around 2.30am, the suspect reportedly fired shots at a Maryland State Police trooper who was helping a broken-down vehicle along a motorway.
The bullets hit the bonnet of the police car, but luckily no one was hurt. About half an hour later, the gunman reportedly fired at a DC police officer's vehicle. The bullets hit the driver's side door. The officer wasn't hurt and managed to describe the vehicle. State and local authorities teamed up to find the suspect and by early Tuesday, the suspected gunman was shot and killed by New Carrollton police officers in Prince George's County.
Gill is still in critical condition, but his spokesperson said: "Mike's remarkable ability to connect with others transcends boundaries. His genuine interest in people and his innate ability to make everyone feel valued and included have been instrumental in fostering a sense of community wherever he goes."
"Whether it's through his infectious laughter, his genuine concern for others, or his innate ability to find common ground, Mike is a catalyst for unity and friendship," the spokesperson added.
"The most important thing about Mike that all of his friends know is how much he loves his family and how proud he is of his three children. You can't know Mike without hearing proud stories of each one of his kids, and hearing about his love and respect for his wife, Kristina."
