The Kansas City Chiefs might have the opportunity to re-sign one of their old secret weapons, Frank Clark, who recently became available again.
Charles Omeinhu, one of their best defensive players, has suffered a season-ending ACL tear. Despite the team's investment in first-round picks over the last two years, they now seem weak in this position ahead of the championship game against the San Francisco 49ers. Omeinhu has been a star player this season, with seven sacks in just 10 games.
Clark, who was let go by the Chiefs after their Super Bowl win last year, could be a potential replacement. Despite his disappointing regular-season performance with the Chiefs, Clark had two strong playoff series' during the team's Super Bowl wins, securing nine sacks over two years.
The pass-rusher is free to join a Super Bowl team. He was let go from the Seahawks when they were having a tough time and he wasn't making many waves.
But despite his performance dropping over recent years, Chris Jones thinks Clark should rejoin - and this was made clear before the playoffs. He tweeted: "Bring Frank Clark back I need my brother for this playoffs run".
During his time at the Chiefs, Clark was key in their two Super Bowl wins. He was the starting pass-rusher last year, getting 2-and-a-half sacks in the playoffs. Clark is also just 3-and-a-half sacks away from matching Willie McGinest's all-time record of 16 playoff sacks.
The Chiefs will likely look at free agents, including Clark and ex-Chief Carlos Dunlap. However, it's expected that their first-round picks from the last two years will step up.
George Karlaftis, the 2022 first-rounder, has had a great season so far, with 11 impressive sacks. It's certain he'll see plenty of playtime.
However, Felix Anudike-Uzomah, this year's first-round pick, is struggling on the field, with only half a sack and a poor winning rate on passing plays.
