'Conservative Party's lies exposed by latest UK economic forecast'

By downgrading its UK economic forecast for next year, the International Monetary Fund has exposed the Tory Government’s lies about Britain doing well.

Advising against tax cuts in the Budget and cutting the growth prediction to 1.6% is a global vote of no confidence in our country. And the UK’s growth this year is likely to remain sluggish. The IMF says it will be the second-slowest of the G7 major economies. The IMF also recognised a truth deliberately hidden by ministers when it said preserving public services and investment implied spending higher spending than had been outlined in Government plans.

Savage cuts to key services and economic misery will be among the legacies this Government leaves when it – hopefully – loses a general election later this year. The case for a fresh start is overwhelming.

Greater Britain

Behind the headline figure of the UK’s population reaching nearly 74 million by 2036 is a huge increase in elderly people. The number aged 85 and over could increase by a million. We celebrate people living longer but plans for them must be put in place. We need a social care service fit for purpose and a National Health Service capable of treating senior citizens promptly and carefully. Another driver of the population rise, up from around 67 million, is immigration. People coming to Britain enrich us economically, socially and culturally but anybody unhappy with the figures should complain to Rishi Sunak and his Conservatives.

It’s happening on their watch.

Tom-foolery

Demolition teams tearing down Captain Tom’s family’s unauthorised spa complex is a sad sight when the old soldier gave us so much hope during Covid.

Most people think his daughter and her husband have been making waves of the wrong sort in the wake of the dignified veteran’s sponsored walk for NHS charities.
