Dancing on Ice's Greg Rutherford's son rushed to A&E after losing tonne of blood

Dancing On Ice star Greg Rutherford has revealed his son was rushed to hospital after losing 'a tonne of blood'.

Greg, 37, who partnered with Vanessa James on the ITV show, shared photos of the gruesome injury on Instagram. His six-year-old son, Rex, suffered a bad head injury after suffering an accident.

The ITV star and Olympian, who shares Rex with fiancée Susie Verill, posted pictures of his son's head injury on social media with fans as he explained that he was forced to rush Rex to A&E after the accident.

Alongside the gory snaps, Greg wrote: "Young Rexy took on the door frame and lost... a ton of blood and some tears later we're in A&E hoping his new head mouth can be closed soon."

Later on, he posted another photo and thanked the NHS for their hard work. Greg said that the accident gave him perspective and made him realise that his next Dancing On Ice performance means nothing compared to his son's health and wellbeing.

Greg wrote: "One minute I'm stressing about a silly ice dance, the next mopping up blood and taking young Rexy to hospital. Perspective is key. PS he was SO brave.

"The wonderful staff and Milton Keynes hospital glued his head back and we were on our way, Rexy hardly flinched. Love the NHS," he added.

The Dancing On Ice star is also a proud dad to Milo, 9, and Daphne, 2. It comes after Greg suffered a horror injury of his own on day one of Dancing on Ice training.

The Olympic gold medalist explained his debut on the ice turned into a nightmare when his competitive edge took over. Greg recalled spending his first day on the ice in the medic's office after getting too "excitable" with his new co-stars.

Speaking to the Mirror and other press, he said: "Day one, it had to be bloody day one. We did the masterclass. We're all hanging out together, having a really good time and doing all these little skills and pushing each other around, just having a good time.

"We started to get probably a little bit overly excitable. Well I did, in particular, and decided that to try and win a race rather than skate, I'd just sprint on my on my toe picks."

Greg continued: "Then, I got a little bit too quick for my legs and absolutely hit the deck like no tomorrow and, I'll be totally honest, I thought I'd broken my hip. It was such a heavy impact and I think it's going to be shown on the first show how big a hit it was and I had this massive egg form on my hip.

"I showed one of the coaches I just sort of said, 'Is that normal, is that like a normal ice burn, sort of reaction?' and they were like, 'No, no, I think you should go and get that looked at.'"

"Thankfully it recovered, but it was just a massive eye-opener straight away. But at the moment I did it, I was like, 'That's it, that's my Dancing on Ice finished because it was the the amount of pain."
