Jeremy Renner has opened up about his "changed" life one year after his horror near-fatal snowplough accident in 2023.

The Hawkeye actor broke over 30 bones when he was crushed by the vehicle on January 1 last year near his home in Reno, Nevada in Lake Tahoe. The 14,000lb snowplough left the Hollywood star with a collapsed lung and a pierced live from his shattered ribs.

Now, just over one year since the terrifying ordeal, the 53-year-old has got candid about his life, admitting he feels more "sensitive and youthful" after the near-death experience. Jeremy explained he had "a lot of callousness squashed out of me".

"I've never been bitter but always maybe a little more callous, a little bit more tough," he told PEOPLE. And I just think those calluses are just scraped off me at this point. Literally, I feel pretty open and wonderfully sensitive and youthful. I've been blessed."

After the crash, Jeremy spent weeks in hospital undergoing several operations as he slowly recovered from his catastrophic injuries. He made a miraculous return to the red carpet after months of recovery last April, crediting the reason for his fight back.

He told reporters his 10-year-old daughter Ava was his "number one reason" for recovery. "Everything kind of just went right," he said. "Obviously I had a lot of tenacity, I had a lot of support and a lot of reason to recover. That is really special," he continued. "There's a lot of people that don't have as much — those things to live for."

Last November, Jeremy revealed the extensive list of treatments he has undergone since the accident. In an Instagram post he wrote: "I have been exploring EVERY type of therapy since Jan 14th … everyday, countless hours of physical therapy, peptide injections, iv drips and pushes, stem cell and exosomes, red light / IR therapy, hyperbaric chamber 2.0 atmospheres, cold plunge, and the list goes on and on…. BUT... My greatest therapy has been my mind and the will to be here and push to recover and be better…. Be exceptional… I feel it’s my duty to do so.

"Not to squander my life being spared, but to give back to my family, friends, and all of you whom have empowered me to endure. I thank you all. #loveandtitanium." Last year he stressed that "pain is progress" as he battled through his injuries on the road to recovery. In another social media post, he penned: "Lower pain levels mark great progress. Making recovery and surpassing goals. A daily habit!"

Jeremy suffered significant injuries when he was accidentally run over while trying to help his nephew. A police report said Alexander Fries was trying to free his car from the snow when the plough began to roll down the hill. Jeremy was helped by his neighbours, who were trained doctors, and then air-lifted to hospital in Reno, Nevada, where he spent considerable time in an intensive care unit (ICU).

Known for the Marvel film The Avengers in which he plays the superhero archer Hawkeye, he has also starred in a Disney+ series of the same name as his character. Jeremy has also received Oscar nominations for his roles in war film The Hurt Locker and drama The Town.
