Two neighbours have scooped £1million playing the People’s Postcode Lottery - and their local charity has won £50,000 as a result.
The two residents of Saltcoats, North Ayrshire, won the weekly Millionaire Street prize, which is worth £250,000. One lucky local raked in £750,000 after playing with three tickets and the other walked away with a £250,000 from a single ticket.
They've request not to be named after their postcode was announced as the winner of the weekly Millionaire Street game today. The neighbours' win also means that nearby charities will also benefit with £50,000 handed out to Ayrshire Community Trust from the Postcode Community Trust.
The charity in Saltcoats promotes community action by delivering programmes and projects that make a difference to people’s lives. Agnes Smith, board member and director, said: "The funding we’ve been awarded from the Postcode Community Trust is a dream come true for us – we now have an opportunity to rapidly expand new and existing initiatives such as our latest exciting project - the Kindness Krew!"
Born out of the needs of our communities during the pandemic, the charity launched its brand-new "Kindness Krew" project, which is aimed at promoting acts of kindness, reinvigorating community spirit within North Ayrshire and helping isolated people form new friendship circles. Volunteering is the ‘golden thread’ that runs through the heart of everything we do as an organisation.”

Agnes also told Daily Record: "The funding we’ve received today will help us to continue to deliver successful projects and directly benefit the people who need support in North Ayrshire with on the ground community action.”

- The Breastfeeding Network - £25,000
- Church of the Nazarene (Trussel Trust Foodbank) - £50,000
- Ayrshire Children’s Services CIC - £25,000
- North Ayrshire Forum on Disability - £20,000
