The Chase host Bradley Walsh ended up stopping the show to help a contestant 'rig the game', even asking for a share of the winnings.
Bradley welcomed four new contestants, Penny, Phillip, Max and Anya, to the popular ITV gameshow on Friday (January 26). They were up against Jenny Ryan, also known as The Vixen. Things got tense when it was Max's turn to play. After only managing to win £1,000 in his cash builder, he bravely chose to go for the high offer of £60,000.
This shocked everyone so much that Bradley stopped the show to 'rig the game'. He escorted Max off the stage, put his arm around him and asked: "Listen I like you a lot. I think you've got a lot of potential. Are you sure about this?" Max replied: "Yeah why not," before Bradley brought him back to the table.
Murmuring, he teased: "At the desk when I bang once, it's A, twice it's B and three times it's C. Don't forget it, six grand is mine. 10% good luck." Bradley's joke made the entire team chuckle - even The Vixen gave a small smile.
But unlucky for Max, he was caught by The Chaser in his cash-builder, which meant only Phillip was left in the final round as Penny and Anya were also dismissed. In a high-pressure final game, Phillip answered 18 questions correctly. Sadly for him, The Vixen caught up with 27 seconds to spare.
Bradley Walsh breaks down in tears filming 'emotional' ITV show with son BarneyIt comes after Bradley recently revealed that filming sometimes has to be stopped due to the 'mistakes' made while reading questions. Despite the popular show's consistent format and smooth running, there have been instances when things didn't go as planned.
Bradley doesn't see the questions any sooner than the contestants, leading to occasional errors. He recently told Radio Times: "If there is a slight misread, I am stopped immediately, bang, by the lawyers." He added that he has to ask questions super fast on the telly quiz.
He explained: "You have to be at such a speed: if you're a contestant and I go 'What's... the capital... of France... ' they'd be dead and buried in 30 seconds. I have to make sure they get up to speed and they're getting about 18 or 19 questions answered correctly. That's the real banana skin score [that will trip the chasers up].
"Once the chasers get in a rhythm there's no stopping them. They can answer 24, 25 questions in two minutes We've even almost reached 30."
