Sofia Vergara will be at the helm of Netflix’s upcoming crime thriller Griselda, which will tell the story of a no-nonsense businesswoman who ruled the drug cartel game in the 1970s and 1980s in Miami.
The upcoming series, which will comprise six episodes, is based on a true story and follows single mother Griselda Blanco who built up one of the most successful cartels in history.
The official Netflix synopsis reads: "Griselda is inspired by the life of the savvy and ambitious Griselda Blanco, who created one of the most profitable cartels in history.

Juliana Aidén Martinez takes on the role of June, Miami PD’s pioneering female intelligence analyst. Karol G (real name Carolina Giraldo) takes on the role of a young woman named Carla who operates under Griselda’s orders.
Vanessa Ferlito portrays an associate of Griselda's called Carmen, while Paulina Dávila stars as Isabel, a friend of Griselda’s who joins the cartel.
Alberto Guerra plays the role of Dario, who is given the mission of tracking down Griselda and returning her to Colombia. While Christian Tappan plays Arturo Mesa, Griselda’s accountant.
Camilo Jiménez Varón stars as Rafa, and Alberto Ammann takes on the role of Alberto, Griselda’s ex-husband.
Meanwhile, Griselda's three sons are portrayed by Orlando Pineda, Jose Velazquez, and Martín Fajardo.
Griselda will drop onto Netflix on January 25, just mere days after it was reported that the real life family of Griselda is planning to sue Sofia Vergara. According to TMZ, the real Griselda was assassinated in 2012 and now her children, acting as representatives of her estate, claim Sofia's portrayal of their mother is "unauthorised".
The family is suing the actress and Netflix for the use of Griselda's image and likeness in the series. According to court documents seen by the US outlet, Griselda's kids are trying to "prevent the release" of the new miniseries, with them allegedly asking for an injunction to block its release .
