Rocksteady’s cooperative third-person action shooter launches early next month, and the studio has already lifted the lid on what future content is set to come.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has not had the best reception. Aside from being a wildly different take on the Batman universe where players control the villains instead of the heroes, in many ways, it looks to distance itself from the excellent 3D Metroidvania stylings of, say, Batman: Arkham City in favour of a co-op, live service take on all things DC. Regardless, the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice release date is set for February 2, 2024, following several delays, and Rocksteady has now teased what post-release content players who pick up the game can expect.

As featured in the last entry in its ‘Insider’ video series, found here on YouTube, it was revealed that the first new playable character coming post-launch will be none other than Joker in March, 2024. Seeing as this universe’s version of the character died a couple of games ago, it ties into the idea of the multiverse that Rocksteady is introducing.

“This is a new elseworlds twist on the villain,” said Rocksteady studio director Darius Sadeghian, who then want on to describe how The Joker’s move set will be different. He’ll be able to surf and float using an umbrella to knock enemies out of the way, for instance, bringing a “frantic, vertical and horizontal” energy to the squad. Better yet, when he joins the lineup in March, The Joker marks the first of three more plan heroes. All of which is “totally new content at no cost for those who purchase Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League”.

Beginning March, 2024, it’s not just a new character that the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Season 1 drop will bring, but plenty of fresh ways to use him too. Here’s a full breakdown of the graphic Rocksteady posted on Twitter about what’s to come:

It seems like Rocksteady is throwing all it can to try and make Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League a success after it launches. The addition of new characters is intriguing, and the concept of “elseworlds” means that the studio is freed up to bring back previously dead characters in the Batman: Arkham universe in all-new ways. This isn’t Mark Hamill’s Joker, but rather a new interpretation. The fact this is all being provided for free, too, makes it tough to pass up for players who purchase the game at launch.
