Justice demands that anybody who lied to hound and jail branch managers in the Post Office scandal is put in the dock.

It should only be a judge and jury deciding their guilt or innocence and whether they too should go behind bars.

Financial reparations and quashing false convictions for the “little people” in this
nightmare must never allow those at the top who orchestrated cover-ups to sleep easy.

This is not about vengeance, although some of the wronged are entitled to want that.

This is about corporate, judicial and political systems that failed disastrously in holding to account those to blame.

The more we learn, the worse the Post Office’s Horizon scandal becomes. Money and apologies are a basic first step.

When the prosecuted are innocent, it is time the guilty were prosecuted.

Asylum shame

The deaths of five people crossing the Channel during winter in an overloaded small boat is another terrible tragedy.

The loss of Iraqis and Syrians is a reminder that refugees and migrants often seek a new life here after Britain bombed their countries.

Establishing safe routes for asylum-seekers would reduce the risks of dangerous crossings and hit hard people traffickers.

Legal net migration is far higher than when Britain was in the EU with free movement, a fact the Conservatives wish to obscure.

And it is much bigger than the number of people brought here by small boats, who in most cases have legitimate reasons to stay.

Tory MPs obsessed with an inhumane and unlawful Rwanda plan instead of a credible strategy should hang their heads in shame.

Well, that’s rich

The world’s five richest men getting even richer while the poorest 60% are driven poorer brings a wealth of shame.

The extreme gap between the destitute and these fatcats is not accidental and it is time governments tackled the imbalance.
