Blokes needled by pals criticising their appearance are turning to Botox, fillers and other beauty jabs.

The number of men opting for injections to make them look younger has more than doubled in the past two years. Last year, fellas made up nearly a quarter of patients for injectable beauty treatments – up 70% on 2021, according to a survey by the British College of Aesthetic Medicine.

Such “tweakments” are normally associated with glamorous women and experts say the surge is driven by a rise in male celebrities looking flawless. Music and reality TV mogul Simon Cowell, 64, has spoken about having a facelift and Botox, while US singer Joe Jonas, 33, has jabs to target frown marks and a scar between his eyebrows. Actor Burt Reynolds, 82, and country singer Kenny Rogers, 81, have also spoken about going under the knife.

Dr Ed Robinson, an NHS medic and aesthetician with clinics in the North West of England, said: “Many patients bring in photos of celebrities like Liam Payne from One Direction as inspiration for treatment, asking for fillers and Botox to achieve his look. This year, a quarter of the patients I treated were men. The taboo around male cosmetic enhancements is gradually breaking – more men are accessing treatments.”

The survey of more than 350 practitioners found Botox was men’s top choice, followed by dermal fillers – to create volume in the face – and skin-refreshing boosters. Physio and social media influencer Alexander Petre-Mears, 27, from Manchester, regularly visits a salon.

He said: “Having a busy and stressful life, I started to get some fine lines on my forehead, so I decided to give Botox a go. Life is always better when I’m happy with my appearance and confident in myself, and a little bit of Botox now and then stops those lines getting worse, making me feel more confident.”

Botulinum toxins in Botox work by relaxing muscles in the face to even out pesky lines. An estimated 900,000 jabs are given in the UK each year.
