Netflix has unveiled the first full-length trailer for its latest blockbuster series, a sci-fi drama that bends time and space. Slated to launch in the Spring, 3 Body Problem follows a “mind-boggling journey spanning continents and timelines” that takes place in the past, present and future, from the 1960s Cultural Revolution in China to the present-day streets of Oxford and the United Nations in New York.

It is inspired by Liu Cixin’s internationally celebrated book trilogy, The Three-Body Problem, which centres on humanity’s discovery of an impending alien invasion. The sprawling series is the latest project from Game of Thrones creators and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who have adapted the novels with Alexander Woo, who boasts writer-producer credits on True Blood and The Terror.

Speaking to Netflix, Woo describes the story as “a history of humanity from the point of first contact with an alien civilization all the way to the end of the universe.” The show’s official logline reads: “A young woman’s fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time into the present day.
