Turns out, we can't even open our food correctly.

The tin opener is a trusty kitchen staple, allowing us to whip up a quick and budget-friendly meal in no time. But, have you ever tried opening a can of soup and ended up fishing for the lid that sinks into the food?

It's hardly ideal, creates mess, and feels a little gross (nobody likes manhandling a cold tin of creamy chicken) but there is a simple solution to fix our soup dilemma. It comes from TikTok channel Problem Solved, who has amassed more than 1.3 million followers thanks to their handy solutions to everyday problems.

In a recent video, which has garnered a staggering 156,000 likes, the channel recommends using the tin opener on its side, rather than the traditional method of piercing the top of the tin. Cutting the side of the tin leaves you with a larger lid that won't fall into the food.

You can then use the lid to drain excess brine or oil, if your opening a can of tuna for example. Problem Solved also recommends using a tin opener to create a small cut in the can, allowing any excess liquid to drain out before you continue opening the tin.
