Knife pain has to end
To see neatly folded clothes of dead victims of knife crimes will send shudders down the spines of parents, carers, relatives, friends, neighbours, colleagues and concerned members of the public.
The senseless loss of life, particularly young lives, is a scourge on our society. We can beat it, if we display purpose and determination.
Actor Idris Elba launching the Don’t Stop Your Future campaign in today’s Daily Mirror is a moment where the country could potentially turn the tide, MPs and citizens coming together to declare enough is enough.
Those piles of folded clothes, representing 247 victims in a single year, are a moving testament to the senseless waste of all those futures, a powerful rallying cry to take pragmatic and practical steps to avoid another 247 families enduring intolerable grief.
We applaud Idris for his involvement as the figurehead, yet he more than anybody would acknowledge that this isn’t only about one man. It will take us all, including our law-makers, to triumph in this battle.
