A woman has divided public opinion with her TikTok tips on how women can stay safe while travelling alone on a cruise. Taking to the video sharing platform @victorias.way highlighted her top ten tips in a reel that showcased how she would execute each safety hack effectively if she was onboard a cruise ship alone.

While some were more obvious, such as 'close the door and turn on the light', others went to greater extremes, including installing a wireless security camera in an inconspicuous place in the bedroom, alongside connecting a handle and deadbolt, or door hinge, for added security.

The video, which was viewed by more than 722k people also received more than 18k comments, after many thought her onboard tips went overboard. One said: “I’d understand this in a hotel, but not a cruise, the additional lock was plenty,” while another said: “At what point does this go from being safe to being paranoid?”

Many highlighted the health and safety issues of her advice, with one asking: “What happens if there’s a fire?” while another, who said they used to work on a cruise ship, commented: “What you’re doing is totally wrong, if something happens to the ship you are dead.”

Many left sarcastic comments with one saying: “You spend the first 6 days of your 7 day cruise barricading your door,” and another saying “*stay safe on your cruise* (*immediately blocks emergency exits with multiple items*).
