He wrote: "It may take a lifetime to fully process the loss my family has endured over the years – most recently, with the sudden passing of our sister Bobbie Jean. I am completely heartbroken. Thank you for all your love and kind words. We are reminded again that life is precious, fleeting and to cherish the time we have with the ones we love. I know she is finally at peace with God. I love you BJ."

The Carter family has lost three siblings: Leslie, Aaron, and now Bobbie Jean. Nick and Angel are the only living members of their generation from the family. She also addressed the trauma her family went through over the years, explaining how it had an effect on them all. Angel wrote: "I know why Leslie, Aaron, and now you ended up in the circumstances that you did. I share that pain we experienced during our childhood and I’m sorry you didn’t have an opportunity for a better life."

Angel further encouraged her followers to reach out to On Our Sleeves, a non-profit committed to helping support families in similar circumstances. "The generational dysfunction stops now," she wrote.

Following the death of their sister Leslie in 2012, Nick remained relatively quiet and didn't attend the funeral. He explained to E! News at the time: "I wanted to be at my sister's funeral, but my family has always had a complicated dynamic."

Musician Aaron Carter died in Nov. 2022. He reportedly drowned in his bathtub while under the influence of Xanax and difluoroethane. Nick told E! News: “No matter what he and I have gone through in our own lives we were always able to make amends, always were able to get back to that place and now I can’t anymore. No matter what, he’s my brother and I miss him and I love him."
