Coronation Street stars reunited as Simon Gregson reveals set gag badly misfired

Coronation Street fans were in for fun scenes on Thursday's Loose Women as panellist Denise Welch was reunited with former co-stars Sue Cleaver and Simon Gregson.

Eileen Grimshaw star Sue, 60, was on the show as a panellist alongside Denise, 65, who used to play Natalie Barnes, while Steve McDonald star Simon, 49, was on the programme to discuss celebrating 35 years on the cobbles. On the cobbles, Eileen and Steve regularly appear together due to the two characters both working in Street Cars taxi firm.

Sue joked during the show: "We've always worked very closely, I mean we could tell you some stories about what we get up to in there! In fact, why don't you tell them Simon!" Simon then went on to reveal a book he and Sue used for joke pranks during filming until it backfired.

He said: "Basically, it can get quite boring in between scenes so you have to keep yourself occupied, mentally, you know, you have to be very careful where you go. So, I found a book and decided to write absolute awful obscenities about Sue in it and poems. Then Sue of course jumped completely on the bandwagon and wrote things about me."

Sue continued: "We'd write terrible things, drawings: 'A picture of Simon by Sue aged seven'. And then, one day, no one knew what was in this book, then one day we opened it and at the back, the producer at the time had written: 'See me.'"

Yet there was more drama to come as Simon revealed: "Then the book went missing! They do tours, people from Canada come, they take them around the set and obviously, not knowing why would you, were flicking through the book going: 'Sue's a what? Simon has a what now?' The book went missing so whether that's in Canada somewhere..."

Simon has been a staple on Corrie since 1989 while Sue has been on the cobbles since 2000. Elsewhere, Denise starred as Natalie from 1997 until 2000. Talking about their favourite storylines ever, Simon said it was the cab office, especially working with Sue and Craig Charles, who played Lloyd Mullaney. Simon joked of filming during that time: "We got away with murder!"
