Emmerdale was full of heartbreak on New Year's Day as teenager Heath Hope died after joyriding a car with twin sister Cathy and Angelica King.
On Friday's episode, the teenagers had been desperate to go to a New Year's Eve party out of the village but couldn't get a lift and father Bob Hope refused to pay for a taxi. The trio were left bored at the B&B's party to which they decided to take matters into their own hands, stealing Wendy's car to joyride to the party.
Cathy was driving the car as she took the backroads so they wouldn't be caught but Heath and Angelica complained it was taking too long, encouraging Cathy to speed up, who had already had a near-crash minutes before. At the same time, Wendy noticed her car was missing and April Windsor, who refused to get in the car with her friends, told concerned Bob what had happened.
Wendy and Bob then went out in search of the teenagers, where their worst fears had come true. The duo found Wendy's car crashed at the side of the road with a bloodied Cathy and Angelica on the side. Realising Heath was missing they ran to the car to find him trapped and after freeing him, Wendy attempted CPR to no avail as later in the hospital it was revealed that Heath had tragically died.
Bob was left absolutely devastated while Cathy and Angelica were in complete shock. The episode ended with the police showing up at the hospital asking to speak to both Cathy and Angelica the next day to find out exactly what had happened.
Corrie's Sue Cleaver says I'm A Celebrity stint helped her to push boundariesPrior to Heath's tragic death, the teenager's demise had been teased in a chilling clue on Friday's episode. During the episode, as Bob attempted to serve canapés at the B&B party, he tripped over Heath's trainers. The angry father warned: "How many times do I have to tell you, keep your flippin' shoes where they're not gonna kill somebody!"
And Bob was quick to beat himself up over this interaction on Monday's episode, as he admitted: "I told him off about leaving his trainers hanging around, it's the last thing I said to him…"
