Netflix viewers have been left petrified after watching the scariest film in years.
The Lodge, starring Riley Keough, the granddaughter of Elvis Presley, was released on the streaming service in the UK on New Year's Day, with many fans sitting down to watch the 2019 movie. In the flick, Riley stars as a soon-to-be stepmum who has been left stranded at a holiday village with her fiancé's two children.
Since its release, the movie has gone on to be widely praised by critics although some have also branded it one of the most terrifying films of the past few years. In the movie, Riley's character, Grace Marshall is engaged to a man who she had met when she was researching a book focusing on an extremist cult.
Riley Keough stars as Grace in The Lodge (Youtube/neonrated)Her fiancé, Richard Hall (played by Richard Armitage), planned a Christmas getaway for the family at a remote lodge so Grace was able to get to know his two children, Aiden and Mia Hall. But after he was forced to abandon the trip and head back to the city for work purposes, she was left completely alone with his two children.
The children played by Jaeden Martell and Lia McHugh soon become resentful of their dad and act in a hostile manner towards Grace. But things soon started to become weirder by the minute as strange things happened around the trio.

As Grace attempts to get to know his children and puts the strange goings-on to the back of her mind, she suffers from extreme anxiety which eventually leads to a nervous breakdown. Later on, a dramatic plot twist sees the trio become endangered and suffer from the deadly consequences of their actions.
Reviewer Monica Castillo said: "The film's terrors come not from an outside or supernatural force but the cruelty that even children can carry." Meanwhile, another review read: "The key to [Keough's] insidious and frightening performance is that by the end you're not sure whether to fear her or fear for her."
"A truly unsettling movie, the kind of horror film that rattles you on an almost subconscious level," read another. Although The Lodge currently holds a score of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival failed to have a cinema release in the UK as well as Ireland.
However, the movie has managed to rake in an estimated £2.5 million globally following its release five years ago. Although it has now been released on Netflix in the UK, it's not available on Netflix across the States but is instead available on Hulu and Amazon Prime.
