Man and woman die after car collides with ambulance transporting elderly patient

Two people have been killed after a car collided with an ambulance as it was transporting an elderly patient.

The tragic incident took place at approximately 7:30pm on December 19. Emergency services were called to the incident on the B1506 Bury Road between Newmarket and Kentford. The driver, a woman in her 70s, was the sole occupant of the blue Volkswagen Golf car.

A man and woman were passengers in the ambulance, travelling alongside a female driver. The male passenger, as well as the Golf's driver and the ambulance's female driver, were taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital with serious injuries, Cambridgeshire Live reports.

The other ambulance passenger suffered minor injuries. Today Suffolk Police confirmed the Golf's driver has now died following the crash. The male ambulance passenger, who was in his 90s, has also died since the incident.

A Suffolk Police spokesperson said: "Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have any relevant dashcam footage. Anyone with any information is asked to get in touch via the following channels quoting reference S C-19122023-302. Phone: 101."
