Davina McCall feared she would never work again after Big Brother and the star was worried she would be typecast by her role presenting the reality TV hit from 2000 to 2010.

“Every other show I tried to do alongside Big Brother has been a bit of a turkey,” she said. “I was like – without Big Brother, who am I?”

But the 56-year-old has proved there’s life after reality with her latest hit, The Masked Singer, which returns on Saturday with Davina in a judge’s chair. The Londoner has previously said her self-titled 2006 BBC chat show was so bad, people gave her sympathetic hugs in the supermarket.

She has also presented The Jump, Million Pound Drop and Streetmate, and is particularly fond of ITV’s Long Lost Family, in which she and Nicky Campbell attempt to reunite people with their estranged relatives. Meanwhile, Lorraine Kelly, Sir Lenny Henry, Rob Brydon and Ellie Goulding will feature as guest judges on the fifth series of ITV’s The Masked Singer, in which celebrities dress in outlandish costumes and sing for the title.

The quartet will join Davina, Jonathan Ross, Rita Ora and Mo Gilligan in the new run, which has a fresh range of characters including Air Fryer and Weather. Joel Dommett returns as host and says becoming a father in September makes it extra special.

The 38-year-old – who welcomed son Wilde with his wife Hannah Cooper – said: “It’s all so joyous and fun. I am viewing it all in a different way.”

The guest judges will feature in addition to 2023 winner Charlie Simpson, Olly Murs and Jennifer Saunders, who are covering for Rita when she misses three shows due to work commitments.

Rita, 33, said: “I’m gutted to be missing some episodes. But keeping my seat warm are some great guest panellists, who are super-competitive and will keep the others on their toes.”
