Two men were arrested after a massive fight involving around 20 people reportedly broke out on Boxing Day, with one man believed to have been stabbed.

The brawl took place on Palatine Road in Northenden, in south Manchester, late in the evening, and resulted in a man being hospitalised for face and back injuries, possibly inflicted with a blade. One of the arrested men is being held on suspicion of assault, affray, and 'hate crime offences'. The other was also arrested on suspicion of affray and 'hate crime offences', and both are currently in custody awaiting questioning by detectives.

A video from the scene showed a cordon in place on a stretch of Palatine Road, near the shops and bars on the busy street. Multiple emergency services vehicles, including ambulances and police cars, were present at the scene. Police are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area and taking witness statements. They are appealing for anyone else who has information, witnessed the fight or has any footage to come forward.

Detective Inspector Helen Bagnall made an urgent appeal and said: "We are reviewing CCTV and witness statements from a number of people but still want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, or has any dashcam or CCTV footage. This type of violence is unacceptable on our streets at any time of the year - we have a dedicated team of CID detectives who can be reached on 0161 856 6063 quoting log 2884-26/12/23."
