A teenage girl has rushed to hospital with "serious injuries" following a crash which took place in a boy racer hot spot.

The victim, aged 17, was involved in a crash in the millionaires' playground Sandbanks in Bournemouth. She was identified as a passenger in a black Mercedes, which crashed with a grey BMW in Dorset peninsula.

Police were called to the Banks Road, which has been noted for sightings of celebrities including Harry Redknapp. The girl, from Poole, was rushed to hospital shortly after 1am.

It has since been reported that the driver behind the wheel of the Mercedes was also admitted to hospital as a precaution. However, the BMW driver is said to have avoided injuries.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Officers are investigating a serious injury collision in Sandbanks, Poole and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. The incident, which happened in Banks Road, was reported to police at 1.01am today. It involved a black Mercedes and a grey BMW.

"A passenger from the Mercedes, a 17-year-old girl from Poole, was taken to hospital with very serious injuries. The driver was also taken to hospital as a precaution. Banks Road was closed to enable officers to investigate the scene."

Inspector Craig Tatton, of the Roads Policing Team, launched an appeal for witnesses, reports Daily Mail. He said: "I am appealing for any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police to please come forward. Also, I would urge anyone who has dashcam fitted to their vehicle and was in the vicinity at the time to check whether they have captured anything of relevance that might assist our inquiries.

"We are aware that the road closure has an impact on the traffic and access in this area and I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while it is necessary to keep it in place to enable us to fully investigate the circumstance of the collision." The Mirror has contacted Dorset Police for comment.
