ITV star admits drink driving but says she got behind wheel to avoid threesome

ITV actress Honeysuckle Weeks got behind the wheel of her car while drunk in order to avoid a threesome, a court has heard.

The Foyle’s War star, 43, said she had been out drinking with friends and was invited to stay over for the night.

However, the she said her friend also invited his lover over to his house in West Sussex, and that she was worried she would be pressured into having sex with them both.

As a result, Weeks left the residence and despite being drunk, she got behind the wheel of her silver Honda CR-V SUV in a bid to escape.

The ITV actress reversed into a parked car before driving off but returned just 15 seconds later.

After reversing into the parked car, on November 28, Weeks was spotted by an off-duty police officer who suspected her of being drunk behind the wheel.

When she failed to carry out a roadside breath test, Weeks was taken to a police station where it was discovered that she was more than twice the legal drink drive limit.

According to court reports, the test showed that she had 78 micrograms in 100 millilitres of breath - while the legal limit is 35 micrograms.

The ITV actress, of Byworth, West Sussex, appeared before magistrates in Worthing on Tuesday where she pleaded guilty to drink driving.

Weeks told magistrates: "I was expecting to stay night in a friend’s house in Arundel.

"But the man and question invited his lover to the property and I was in danger of being coerced into sexual actions with them which I found extremely unwelcome."

She also told magistrates that she needed her car to take her son to school.

Weeks also claimed she was not earning any money at present and was only receiving Universal Credit.

Weeks has agreed to do a drink driving awareness course which would reduce her driving ban by 20 weeks.

It would mean she will get her licence back in April 2024.
