Brock Purdy, the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, has given an update on his injury after he had to leave the field during their game against the Baltimore Ravens. The Niners were playing at home at Levi's Stadium on Christmas Day in a match-up of the top seeds in the NFL.

Both the 49ers and the Ravens have already secured their places in the playoffs and are currently the top seeds in the NFC and AFC respectively. Despite throwing four interceptions and no touchdown passes in the 33-19 loss to the Ravens, Purdy remains optimistic.

This was the first game since Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams where Purdy didn't manage to complete a touchdown pass. The defeat brought the Niners' record to 11-4 for the season.

In the fourth quarter, Purdy had to leave the game with a stinger and was replaced by backup quarterback Sam Darnold. After being checked out in the medical tent, he was cleared to return to the game but head coach Kyle Shanahan decided to keep him on the sidelines.

Purdy has now shared more details about his injury, explaining that he could have continued playing after being cleared by the medical team. He also revealed what he and Shanahan discussed on the sideline after his injury and why the decision was made to keep him off the field.

"Yeah, I played the whole game, fine not thinking about it or anything at all," Purdy told reporters on Monday, via NFL.com. "It wasn't even a thing."

"You know just the way I got tackled on that play, it sort of just lit up again just like last week. So, I had to go through the protocol, process in the tent, and everything like that. It sort of just how it went down."

"We had talked about the scenario of the game and where we were at," Purdy added, referring to his conversation with Shanahan. "I just got a stinger and my arm was coming back, feeling normal and whatnot."

"So, he [Shanahan] was just like where we were at the game and Sam [Darnold] had gone in and scored. He goes 'For now we are just going to go with Sam with how things are going.'"

"We didn't want anything else popping up with the stinger and all that kind of stuff. It was just where we were at situationally. Sam was doing good and we rolled with him."

Shanahan also provided some insight into what happened with Purdy's injury. Despite having four interceptions in the game, the Niners head coach explained why he still has faith that Purdy can lead the team to success this season.

"He [Purdy] stayed in there, kept battling," Shanahan told reporters. "Our whole team struggled there in the second half, so it just wasn't him."

"I know he was disappointed not being able to finish it there, but given that stinger again, I just wanted to keep him out of there. Ready for him to bounce back next week."

Despite a disappointing loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Purdy is still likely to be in contention for this season's NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. The 49ers fans can look forward to more thrilling action as their team prepares to face off against the Washington Commanders on New Years Eve in Week 17.
