Kicking off the new year on Disney Plus is the much-anticipated premiere of the Hawkeye spinoff series, Echo.
The exciting new addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is billed as a 'gritty, action-packed drama' centering on the titular deaf superhero who first appeared in the Hawkeye miniseries.
Alaqua Cox stars as Maya Lopez, a Native American whose ruthless behaviour in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. As the former leader of the Tracksuit Mafia gang, Maya finds herself pursued by the formidable Wilson Fisk and his criminal empire. The resultant turmoil kick-starts her into coming to terms with her past, reconnecting with her roots, and finally embracing her family and community.
Part of the MCU's hotly-anticipated Phase Five, Echo aims for a more grounded and intense narrative, so much so, in fact, that it's the first MCU series to carry a TV-MA (unsuitable for children under 17) rating in the US.
The five-episode series will be available from Wednesday, January 10. All episodes will be streaming from launch, marking the first Marvel Studios series to drop all entirely bingeable episodes on the same day.

Elsewhere on the platform, viewers are eagerly awaiting new instalments - and the thrilling finale - of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The long-awaited adaptation of the popular book sees the titular modern 'demigod' flexing his newfound supernatural powers after the legendary Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. The fantastical tale then sees Percy having to trek across America to find it and restore some much-needed order to Olympus.
