Waterloo Road actress Katie Griffiths is pregnant with her first child with her new husband.

The happy news comes just five months after she wed her long-term partner Matthew Wardle. Katie and Matthew tied the knot in a stunning ceremony in Hampshire.

Katie, who is best known for starring as Chlo Grainger, is set to welcome her first child in the spring after announcing their exciting news on Instagram. In a sweet post to her 31,000 followers, 34-year old Katie shared a snap of her adorable dog reaching up to her blossoming bump.

A second photo saw the pooch sat beside a book, titled How to Still Get Treats When The Humans are Having a Baby. Actress Katie captioned her post: "Baby Wardle coming May 2024."

Her Waterloo Road co-star Angela Griffin reacted with glee, responding: "That is absolutely amazingly, beautifully gorgeous news! Best Christmas pressie ever." Fans flocked to the comments section to wish her well too, with one writing: "Congratulations Katie!! Was watching u and Donte in Waterloo Road yesterday you have come so far."

Another added: "Congratulations Katie! The bump really suits you, you look gorgeous ! Sending a big squeeze!" A third penned: "Congratulations on your little one I’m really happy for you you’ll be an amazing and wonderful mom I wish you the very best of luck and good luck for the future you one of my favourite characters in Waterloo Road."

And a fourth said: "Congrats mumma to be! You'll be amazing, no doubt. Happy Christmas." Katie, who was just 17 when Waterloo Road debuted in 2006, remained on the show for four series.

The BBC star's character, Chlo, was the daughter of art teacher Izzie Redpath, played by Jill Halfpenny, and was often getting in trouble. But, her romance with Donte, played by Adam Thomas, was at the centre of the early series.

She returned to the role earlier this year, however, telling the BBC: "It's been wonderful. It feels like coming back but also everything is different. The set’s different. The classes are brand new, there’s a really exciting cast and some returning faces. So it's been a bit of everything but it’s been lovely. "

The reprisal didn't last long though with Chlo collapsing at home before being rushed to hospital by her childhood sweetheart husband Donte, who she shared a daughter and son with. In a scene that shocked viewers, Donte was soon given the devastating news by doctors that she had passed away.
