Sheridan Smith has brutally dashed Gavin and Stacey fans' hopes of a future series.
The much-loved star, who played Ruth 'Rudi' Smith - Smithy's sister - in the sitcom, also dated James Corden for two years from 2007 to 2009. Speaking to Jason King on Heart Breakfast, Sheridan said she doesn't believe any more episodes are necessary as how the show ended was 'genius.'
However, the actress did follow this up by assuring she is still in the dark if Corden and Ruth Jones are plotting more episodes of the fan favourite sitcom. The BBC series remains in high demand with fans, with millions streaming the Christmas specials on iPlayer over the festive season.
In the interview from today, Heart's Jason asked if people still ask about Gavin & Stacey. Sheridan, 42, replied: "People ask quite a lot, I have not a clue if they’re going to do anymore or not, I really don’t know."
She added: "But I think what they’ve done is genius, they’ve left it on a high haven’t they, so many shows overdo it, because we all want more, we all want more Gavin & Stacey."
Trevor Noah mocks Prince Harry's 'frost-bitten' penis claim at Grammy AwardsLast month, 57-year-old Ruth and 45-year-old James - who created and wrote Gavin & Stacey - were spotted in Soho, London together, but the sighting got fans of the show hopeful for another reunion. The last time the show aired was in 2019 when a Christmas special was shown, nine years after the last episode.
And now star of the show Joanna shared her thoughts about the chances of the BBC reviving the show four years later. The last Christmas special ended on a cliffhanger as Nessa, played by Ruth, got down on one knee to propose to Smithy, played by James - but the episode ended before his reply.
Speaking to the MailOnline, Joanna said: "I can see them never doing any more because it was nice to leave it on a cliffhanger because it's up to the viewer to imagine what would have happened. So I can imagine them ending it like that. I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't get the call, and I wouldn't be surprised if I did. But all I can say is, if they were going to do another one I hope it's soon because we're all getting so old, I don't particularly want to see Stacey get that much older."
Joanna suggested that she'd find out about any new episodes when the public did, insisting she's always the last of the cast to be told any Gavin & Stacey-related news. But she also hinted at a possible avenue for the show to explore next, adding: "Gavin and Stacey's kids would be teenagers now, so that would be quite funny to see."
