A family has launched a frantic search for their beloved deaf and blind dog who has been missing for 12 days in the hope to find him in time for Christmas.

Todd, a golden Labrador, vanished from near Blantyre Train Station in Scotland on Thursday, December 7, while out with his owner, Robert Sands. The incident has left Robert and his family frantic as Todd is about 14 and cannot see or hear well. Locals have now joined the hunt to try and find missing Todd and have created a Facebook group as well as scouring the nearby area.

Robert told Glasgow Live: "Todd comes to work with me every day. He's of the age where he sometimes wets himself so I took him outside to use the toilet at the station. I let him out, turned my back for one second, I looked about and couldn't see him and went into panic mode."

"There was a woman walking her dog nearby and I asked if she had seen him, but she hadn't. I phoned police on 101 but they said because he's an animal they wouldn't send out a unit but would put a note in their system. I then phoned ScotRail train station but I got no response. Then I phoned British Transport Police and got told if he hadn't gone onto the tracks, there was nothing they could do."

Robert is worried because Todd is old and can't see or hear well, so he doesn't think his beloved companion could have gone far on his own - sparking fears someone might have taken him. He added: "He's deaf and blind and struggles with his mobility which is why I thought there was no way he'd walk that far.

"But people said you'd be surprised what a dog will do when it thinks its in a dangerous situation. He's an old boy. I think somebody's picked I'm up, it's the only logical explanation.

"The local community have been brilliant. People looking for him, dropping leaflet drops. People have just been brilliant. I've had him for about nine years. His old owners were looking to rehome him and when I say to folk, I rescued Todd, he rescued me."

Anyone who spots Todd has been asked to call 07533 886359.
