Powerball billionaire Edwin Castro has not been shy about splashing the cash since his historic win - including a $4million Japaense-style mansion for his parents.

The 31-year-old has purchased a 4,631-square-foot mansion in Altadena, California, for his folks, who previously lived a few miles away from him. The staggering property is shielded from the public eye by olive trees and has a stunning view of the San Gabriel Mountains.

The 1953-built five-bedroom, four-bath home is described as being modern with a Japanese influence, as it features high white ceilings, white walls, and minimalist light fixtures. In addition, the home also has a fireplace, a huge garden, and impressive mountaintop views.

Outside of the home, there is a pond, patio, and swimming pool. It also has the capacity for more than a dozen cars with a huge detached garage. “The home’s U-shaped focal point is the gorgeous courtyard that created its own private oasis for you to escape the lounge in a zen patio completed by red floating Japanese roof and tranquil pond,” according to the home’s listing.

The winner of the $2billion Powerball previously purchased a jaw-dropping $25.5million Hollywood estate after receiving a one-time lump sum payment of $997.6 million. It contains a game room, wine cellar, movie room, bar, and a luxury fitness studio. Exterior features include an infinity pool, a spa, two fire pits and a built-in barbecue area.

Catro's recent investments have come after he enlisted his younger brother Jesse, a 27-year-old banker, to help manage his assets. “They are a team and they’re very grounded,” a source told the New York Post. “They’re not into partying. They’re not out in clubs otherwise everybody would see them.

“The only pictures that they have are of him coming out of his lawyer’s [office] or the bank. That’s who they are. They are just normal people.”

However, despite trying to shun the limelight, Castro has purchased some very expensive classic cars including a $200,000 Porsche 911. Although, according to those closest to him, his favourite remains a family heirloom - a vintage green 1970s Porsche 911 SC.

He has used some of his wealth to donate to numerous local charities and before the newfound fame he had frequently volunteered in the community as part of his Eagle Scout duties. “I’m sure there are a lot of people who are jealous of him, but it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy,” the friend added.

According to Castro's family, he is aiming to keep hold onto the $2million home where he and his brother grew up. He came forward over three months after purchasing the winning ticket at a petrol station in Altadena, and his win was announced February 14 by California Lottery officials.
