Woman left with serious injuries after she was 'slashed in neck' near to school

A 28-year-old woman was arrested after another woman suffered cuts to her neck in an attack close to a school early this morning, police say.

Police closed off roads near Sirius Academy West, in west Hull and officers flooded the scene after the assault was reported at about 6.40am. Police said a woman suffered "lacerations to the back of her neck and arm", Hull Live reports. A 28-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and is currently in police custody.

The 39-year-old victim was taken to hospital and her injuries, which are described as "serious", were not believed to be life threatening. An altercation had taken place between two women known to each other, Humberside Police said. Detective Inspector Andy Crawforth said: "I understand an incident of this nature will be concerning for the local community; however, I want to offer my reassurance that we believe this to be an isolated incident between individuals known to each other.

"A scene guard was put in place whilst officers carried out lines of enquiry to understand the circumstances surrounding the altercation but has since been removed. Locals to the area can expect to see an increased police presence in the area throughout the day, providing additional reassurance to residents whilst our investigation continues. I would encourage anyone with any information, or anyone with concerns, to please come and speak to us.

"If you have any information that may assist with our enquiries, or if you have dashcam or CCTV footage of the area around the time of the incident, please get in touch with us.I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident or who may have been a witness to please contact us on our non-emergency number 101, quoting log 75 of 11 December.”

Parents at the nearby Sirius Academy West said they'd received a message warning them that Anlaby Park Road South was closed by police due to the incident. The message read: "Due to an unrelated police incident, Anlaby Park Road South will be closed to all vehicles. The Academy is open as normal and staff will be on hand to support students accessing the Academy." Hull Live attended the scene and Crime Scene Investigation was observed collecting evidence. As of 11.30am, Humberside Police had left the scene.
