'Every day we lurch from chaos to crisis - we deserve a general election now'

We deserve, we need and we would get an immediate General Election if the warring Conservative Party did not put itself first, second and third.

Rishi Sunak clinging to high office is unforgivable selfishness from a PM praying for a better day that will probably never come.

Opposition parties are better in tune with the public mood when they urge timid Sunak to be brave for once and let the nation decide who should rule Britain.

Because every day we lurch from chaos to crisis is both another hammer blow for the country and a missed opportunity to vote for a fresh start.

Who is in power matters to people’s finances, jobs, health, opportunities, prospects and 1,001 other things that matter. For the Tories, politics is a self-indulgent squabble we simply cannot afford any longer.

Cash flow woe

Inequality and unfairness are scandals in Breadline Britain when nearly a third of children live in struggling homes unable to afford to save as little as £10 a month.

The lack of security casts long shadows over young lives that destroy a child’s prospects in later years, condemning them to lower pay and missed opportunities compared with friends from households where money is not a constant worry.

The dispiriting Action for Children report must serve as a wake-up call for politicians, whether Labour or Conservative.

Money does not guarantee happiness but not having enough cash to afford food, shoes, clothes, heating, furniture, trips, treats and even occasional holidays is deadening.

Hull lotta love

Willy Wonka star Timothee Chalamet has certainly sweet-talked the women of Hull by naming their accent as one of the sexiest in the world. It should mean all of the star’s films enjoy a Golden Ticket in the city for some time.
