Michael Ball has been banned from driving after twice being caught speeding in his sports car on the same road.

The West End star is forbidden from behind the wheel of his £60,000 Porsche for six months after being flashed one two occasions in the space of five months in London. The Hairspray and Sweeney Todd favourite was first prosecuted for breaking the 30mph speed limit on the A40 in December.

Michael then broke the limit again in Notting Hill on April 30 this year, when the camera clocked his vehicle driving at 35mph. The radio star, who was awarded an OBE for services for musical theatre, pleaded guilty to one offence and was convicted of the second.

The 61-year-old host of The Michael Ball Show on BBC Radio 2 already had penalty points on his licence. He hasn't yet commented on the ban after he was sentenced at Lavender Hill magistrates. The singer was ordered to pay two £350 fines, a £280 victim surcharge, and £100 in costs.

Two years ago Michael teamed up with 100-year-old Capt Sir Tom Moore for a charity version of You’ll Never Walk Alone before Capt Sir Tom's death. He told the Mirror the war veteran totally changed his life after landing his first British number one single.

The Second World War veteran stole the nation’s heart in lockdown by raising more than £30 million for the NHS by trekking with his walking frame around the garden of his home in Marston Moretaine, Beds. Michael said he helped organise the music for the funeral.

“That man’s dignity, humility, kindness and sense of duty made us look like wusses.” he said. “Tom’s daughter Hannah called me and said ‘We were thinking of what we want for the funeral.’ I said ‘If I were you, I think a really important hymn, which I know Tom loved, was I Vow To Thee My Country.’”
