Soap star Claire Sweeney suffered a highly embarrassing moment on her first day of Dancing on Ice training.
The Coronation Street actress was the second star confirmed to be taking part in the latest series of the ITV show. She is currently starring as Cassie Plumber in the ITV soap, but she is well known amongst TV fans for her role in Brookside. Cassie has also appeared in a number of West End musicals over the years, including Chicago, Guys and Dolls, Legally Blonde and Educating Rita.
She even had her own singing career as her album Claire reached number 15 in the UK albums chart back in 2002. Despite being in the spotlight for years, Claire recently had a very awkward moment which made her want to shy away. Claire has opened up on her first day of ice skating training that ended up not going to plan.
The actress explained the show's head judges and Olympic stars Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean were waiting for her in the middle of an ice rink. It was her first time on the ice and Claire wanted to make a good impression to the judges as well as cameras who were filming every moment.
She shared: "I’d got a blow-dry and was wearing bright blue because I thought it would stand out, but as I got on the ice, I went flying, landed on my wrist and hurt it." Claire told Prima: "I thought, ‘If I can carry on with everyone looking at me, that will be a big accomplishment’, so I got back up and kept skating for half an hour and was so proud of myself. Then I glanced in the mirror in the dressing room and saw that my leggings had ripped and my bum had been hanging out the whole time!”
Corrie's Sue Cleaver says I'm A Celebrity stint helped her to push boundariesSpeaking about her new venture, Claire – who plays Tyrone's mum on the ITV soap – previously said: "I'm really looking forward to going to an ice rink with my son and actually being able to skate and not have to use the penguins they give you to help you stay upright! I've had to wear my boots around the house... I haven't stepped on the ice yet."
Those taking part in the next series with Claire include Ryan Thomas, Roxy Shahidi, Adele Roberts, Ricky Norwood, Ricky Hatton, Hannah Spearritt, Greg Rutherford, Miles Nazaire, Lou Sanders, Amber Davies and Eddie The Eagle. Former Gogglebox star Stephen Lustig-Webb has already had to pull out of the programme after breaking his ankle training.
Some fans have feared for the show as its hosts are yet to be confirmed. It comes after Phillip Schofield quit This Morning and ITV earlier this year after admitting to an "unwise" but "not illegal" affair with a younger colleague. Co-star Holly Willoughby hasn't confirmed if she will return to screens for the dance competition, after she also walked away from This Morning back in October.
Holly and Phil had presented the show since it launched back in 2006. Christine Lampard took over from Holly for three years, before Holly and Phil rejoined in 2018 after a break. The 2024 series of Dancing on Ice has its full celebrity lineup, yet fans are waiting for confirmation of its hosts.
