Rockstar Games has released the GTA 6 trailer early after being leaked before the official reveal.

Rockstar Games was so close to the finish line of finally revealing GTA 6 when, out of nowhere, the GTA 6 trailer was leaked on Twitter before the official GTA 6 trailer release time, revealing that the game will be coming out in 2025. It was promptly taken down, but enough people had seen the low-res version of the trailer that Rockstar Games took matters into its own hands and released the GTA 6 trailer early.

Rockstar tweeted: "Our trailer has leaked so please watch the real thing on YouTube."

The GTA 6 trailer confirms some previous rumours about the game such as the title's location being set in Vice City (the Miami-based location from 2002's GTA Vice City). It also confirms the game will feature two protagonists, the first female protagonist in the series since the original GTA – Lucia – is heavily featured in the trailer, while she is joined by an unnamed man who rumours have previously referred to as Jason.

Miami Vice

If you read our recent article where we discussed what we want to see from GTA 6's first trailer, we pointed out that the song choice in the first GTA 5 trailer gave a lot away about Michael's character. The first GTA 6 trailer features Love Is A Long Road by Tom Petty, which seems to reinforce the Bonnie and Clyde-like story the game seems to be telling about Lucia and Jason.

The GTA 6 trailer also places a heavy focus on social media, with many shots in the trailer showing a TikTok-like interface as clips of people doing bizarre things play. You'll see a man pulling a crocodile out of a swimming pool, and someone twerking on a moving car, as well as people livestreaming the goings on in Vice City. There's also what appears to be body cam footage of a police raid. These clips are enough to give us an idea of the ground Rockstar is going to tread with GTA 6's setting and story.

The trailer mainly focuses on Lucia, who begins the trailer as a prison inmate. It then shows off some of the Florida locales, showing familiar streets, the nightlife, a swamp area, and – of course – Miami Beach itself. We're not quite sure how much of it is pre-rendered and how much is gameplay, but regardless, it looks fantastic graphically. But, curiously, the GTA 6 trailer mentions PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but not PC.

Hopefully, the ten-year wait to see GTA 6 was worth it for fans, even if it was a little bit earlier than planned.
