It's safe to say Wrexham AFC star Paul Mullin was not a fan of King Charles and the Queen Consort visiting the Racecourse Ground. In his recently released autobiography 'My Wrexham Story,' the 29-year-old explained he wasn't appreciative of how the King and Queen Consort's visit to North Wales disrupted the club's gameday preparations in 2022.

"What the King's visit meant to me wasn't a chance to bow to the aristocracy," Mullin wrote. "It meant a wrecking ball smashing through our schedule for the game the next day at Eastleigh - one of our more distant away fixtures.

"Normally we'd travel down to a game like this the day before to give everyone plenty of time to recover from the journey, train for a bit, and then rest up overnight. With the King in town that became impossible. He wanted to visit the football club. Everyone having shipped down to Hampshire for the weekend wouldn't have been a great look."

Despite the King visiting and the intrusive travel, it appears as if Wrexham had no issues against Eastleigh, winning two-nil, thanks to goals from Ben Tozer and Elliot Lee. That said, not getting enough preparation was not the only gripe Mullin had.

"I'll be straight: This visit might have been billed as an historic day for Wrexham, but it wasn't for me," Mullin said of the visit on Dec. 9, 2022. "I've no interest in royalty. I don't see why anyone should have the God-given right to be born into such wealth, and then for us to pay for them as well.

"It just comes down to basic fairness. How can one family be entitled to so much just through an accident of birth and then spend their whole lives being lauded for it?"

Mullin clarified that no one made him think this way about the monarchy - rather, he had developed this line of thinking as he matured as an adult.

"Like most working-class Liverpudlians they've just been busy getting on with their lives," Mullin said. "At the same time, they've always been people who would help anyone out if they could; people who believed in everyone being treated equally. And that's my view as well."

For Mullin, he has always been someone who worked his way from the ground up, as evidenced by his stint at Tranmere. In his autobiography, Mullin shared his experience under manager Micky Mellon almost forced him to quit football entirely because of how he was treated.

Still, his experience at Tranmere eventually led to him landing in Wrexham, where he has thrived, scoring 38 goals in 46 games last season, helping the club gain promotion to League Two. Wrexham currently is tied for second with Barrow with 37 points as Stockport sits atop the table with 42 points.

And even with all his success at Wrexham, he still is not a fan of the team having to cater their schedules around the King and royalty.
