Former WWE star Tammy "Sunny" Sytch has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after being involved in a fatal car crash which resulted in a 75-year-old man being killed.

The incident occurred back in March 2022 when the former WWE valet collided with a vehicle that was being driven by Julian Fran Lasseter at the time. The 75-year-old was stopped at a red light in Ormond Beach, Florida which saw his vehicle pushed into another following the initial collision.

Sytch was taken to hospital after the crash where records indicated that she had a blood-alcohol level of almost three times the legal limit. Her charges following her arrest included driving with a suspended license, DUI, DUI with damage to person and DUI with damage to property.

Sytch, who performed in WWE under the moniker "Sunny", initially entered a no-contest plea to the charges which resulted from the crash. At her hearing inside a Volusia County courtroom the 50-year-old broke down in tears where she expressed her remorse for her actions.

Speaking at her hearing, Sytch revealed her childhood dream of wanting to become a doctor, saying: "The first line of the Hippocratic oath reads 'I will do no harm', on March 25th 2022 I did the opposite of that. I did harm to someone else and my entire being was crushed."

"I have done something horrible, but I am so much more than the worst that I have done," she added. "I try to think about the good I've done. Because when I sit alone thinking about what I did to the Lasseter family that tragic day, from a stupid decision, I feel the regret and remorse deep inside my soul. I know that they don't get to rest knowing that he's gone."

Sytch revealed she has also lost family members, adding: "I know how it feels" before remarking: "I'm truly, truly sorry. I know that my words are not enough, but please know that I think about you every day," she added as she turned to the family inside the courtroom. "Every second of every day. I will do whatever I can to make the changes I made to make sure this never happens again."

Lassiter’s family told the police station that they were disappointed with the sentence that was given to Sytch. "We are a little bit disappointed in the outcome. I think it should’ve been longer than what they — what she agreed to," Whitney Lassiter-Hill, Julian’s daughter, said as quoted by Fox News.

Sytch has previously spent time behind bars when she was arrested three times in Pennsylvania for DUI back in 2015. The arrest led to a 90-day jail sentence.

Sytch was also arrested in 2013 for 114 days after she was found guilty of assaulting her boyfriend and violating parole conditions.

Before her plea deal the former wrestler was facing a sentence of up to 25 years in prison, according to a report via TMZ. Her 17-year sentence includes having her driver's license permanently revoked and being required to serve eight years of probation.
