Chelsea will be hoping that their significant January spending spree will propel them up the table following a rotten run of form.

Prior to Friday night's west London derby against Fulham, the Blues were mired in midtable after winning just two of their previous 11 Premier League matches.

New head coach Graham Potter has been backed substantially in the transfer market, though, and now has the opportunity to stamp his mark on the team during the second half of the season.

In the wake of Friday night's meeting with Fulham, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest news from in and around Stamford Bridge...

Fernandez slammed for conduct

Benfica president Rui Costa has torn into Enzo Fernandez following his blockbuster transfer to Chelsea and questioned the World Cup-winning midfielder's conduct.

Fernandez, 22, had been linked with a mega-money move to Stamford Bridge for weeks before the Blues and Benfica finally thrashed out a British-record deal in the final hours of deadline day.

The Portuguese giants were initially reluctant to lose Fernandez in January and were unwilling to negotiate with Chelsea, who were told to pay the midfielder's €120million (£105m) release clause. But Costa has now revealed that he softened his stance after Fernandez made it clear that he "did not want to continue" at Benfica.

Mykhaylo Mudryk's former coach has claimed that a move to Arsenal would have been a better fit for the Ukrainian winger.

Mudryk was heavily pursed by the Gunners before he was snapped up Chelsea in an £88m move last month. However, it was believed prior to Mudryk's switch to Stamford Bridge that a move to Arsenal was the 22-year-old's preference.

And Andres Carrasco, who coached Mudryk when he was playing for Shakhtar Donetsk's U19 team, believes Arsenal's style would have suited the winger's game. He said: "Today, Arsenal, with its style of play, could be more suitable for Mudryk, who successfully uses dribbling and plays one-on-one. It would be better for him, in my opinion."
