Taika Waititi is the directorial mind behind Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok, but he didn't necessarily want to be.

The creative star revealed it wasn't his plan to go into the superhero game, but he took the job for the money. He said: "I had no interest in doing one of those films. It wasn’t on my plan for my career as an auteur"

Speaking to the podcast SmartLess, he continued: "But I was poor and I’d just had a second child, and I thought, ‘You know what, this would be a great opportunity to feed these children.'”

However, after Ragnarok's success, he was roped into churning out more Thor movies for the brand. After all, it made about £685million in box offices globally.

Thor: Love and Thunder made about £602 million, making it a bit of a disappointment for a Marvel sequel. Last year, fans and critics alike weren't happy with the film which generated a poor response. So, Taika is ready to move on from the MCU for now. In fact, he said he knows he "won't be involved", if another Thor film is in the works.

That being said, there's a chance he could make a return eventually. He said: "I love Marvel, I love working with them. I love Chris [Hemsworth]. We’re in an open relationship and it’s like, if they want to see other people I’m happy for that. I’d still get back into bed with them one day.”

Taika is still in the movie world and he recently produced the movie Next Goal Wins which is out now. According to IMDb, fans can expected at least five upcoming projects from him.

After the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, a more candid look into the financial situations of Hollywood's greatest is available. As is turns out, financial instability is not unheard of, even for some big names. In fact, Nia DaCosta told the New York Times she was hoping working on an MCU project could mitigate her college debt. In 2021, she admitted to Business Insider that she still had debt remaining, despite accepting a directing job on The Marvels.
