Furious Celine Dion fans protest outside Rolling Stone over greatest singer snub

A group of furious protesters picketed the offices of Rolling Stone magazine on Friday to complain that they had ‘forgotten’ to include Celine Dion on a list of 200 greatest singers of all time.

Fury was unleashed last week when the iconic music magazine unveiled their ‘best of’ list - only for 200 million album selling Canadian star Celine, 54, to fail to make the cut.

The Think Twice singer has received a high number of awards over the course of her career - with Billboard, MTV and Grammy awards among the gongs on her shelf.

But when Rolling Stone magazine unveiled their 200 Greatest Singer of All Time list on the first day of the year, they likely didn’t anticipate the angry backlash Celine fans would unleash - or that they would show up outside their New York HQ to complain in person en mass.

The protest group’s founder, Line Basbou, was questioned by the magazine's staff and laid her thoughts and emotions bare.

She argued: “Obviously, you made a big mistake forgetting her name on the big list you published last week. We wanted to make sure that you understand that you missed the best singer in the world.”

She added: “She should be the first name on your list."

While another named Julie Snyder blasting the mag, stating: “She’s won Oscar, Grammy, American Music Awards,.. You forgot her! You’re stoned guys, it’s OK!”

Rolling Stone itself appeared to rub salt in the wounds of Celine's fans as they highlighted it was hardly the first time the chart topping star had failed to make one of their 'best of' lists.

They wrote: "In this publication’s defense, however, we are nothing if not consistent: Dion didn’t appear on our initial 2018 list of the 100 Greatest Singers — though, the mononymous Sixties crooner Dion did (and he made the cut the second time around, at Number 154)."

Aretha Franklin, who passed away in August 2018 at the age of 76, took the top spot - while further dead musicians Whitney Houston, Sam Cooke and Billie Holiday took the second, third and fourth spots respectively.

Chart topping singer Mariah Carey had the number five spot - essentially making her the greatest living singer in the world according to the music magazine.

Last month Celine shocked fans when she announced she is suffering from Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) - an incurable condition that leaves sufferers as 'human statues' as it locks the body into rigid positions.

She told fans the tragic news on her deteriorating health after she was forced to cancel her European tour.

"Hello everyone, I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reach out to you. I miss you all so much and can’t wait to be on stage talking to you in person.

"I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time and its been really difficult for me to face my challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through.

"While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all the spasms I’ve been having," she added.
