There's an every-day word which is strictly off limits when in comes to addressing Prince William and Kate Middleton's three children, a royal author has claimed.

While Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have plenty of rules they must stick to - including a total ban on raised voices - royal staff also have behaviour directives including one word they must never call the youngsters. The royal couple have one of the best nannies in the country in Maria Borrallo, who attempts to maintain order.

Kate and William hired Maria when George was just a few months old and she quickly settled well into royal family life. But there is one word Maria is banned from saying whenever she's at work, and it's all because of her training. Maria was educated at the famous Norland College in Bath, one of the country's top child care training centres.

Author Louise Heren spent a year at the college researching a documentary, so knows exactly what the students are taught. Speaking to The Mirror, she revealed there's one word the women are taught never to say - Kids.

"Instead, the little royals should always be referred to as children or by their names. Louise said: "The word kid is banned. It's a mark of respect for the children as individuals."

It's a strict rule at the school, so it's unlikely something Maria has carried with her and now follows in her royal role. Despite being three of the most famous children in the world, Louise believes George, Charlotte and Louis lead normal lives at home.

She said: "Given what we have seen of Catherine when she is out in public, she's very hands on. I imagine her relationship with Maria is very close and they collaborate greatly on the care of the children.

"I've spoken to nannies who have worked with other royal families and life is pretty normal. You get up, have breakfast, you go to school and you wear your school uniform whether you like it or not.

"It would be quite like the average British school children." Kate and William have a few helpful parenting tricks up their sleeves when it comes to raising George, Charlotte and Louis.

They have a couple of strict rules and shouting is reportedly "off limits". In place of the naughty step, a popular discipline approach, Kate and Wills sit their children down for a 'sofa chat'.

A source told the Sun : "The naughty child is taken away from the scene of the row or disruption and talked to calmly by either Kate or William. Things are explained and consequences outlined and they never shout at them. Shouting is absolutely ‘off limits’ for the children and any hint of shouting at each other is dealt with by removal.”
