Stone Roses' Mani left heartbroken as wife Imelda dies after brave cancer fight

Tributes have been pouring in for Imelda Mounfield, the wife of Stone Roses star Mani, who has sadly passed away.

The news was shared on X, formerly Twitter, by Happy Mondays member Rowetta. Rowetta posted: "So beautiful, so brave, so LOVED. We're all going to miss you @imeldamounfield." She added: "All my thoughts and love to Mani and your beautiful, precious boys and love to all Imelda's family and friends."

Fans rushed to the reply section to send their condolences, with one writing: "So sorry for your loss Mani and your lovely family." A second added: "Oh no, I've only just heard the news. She was so, so brave. Absolutely heartbroken x." Meanwhile, a third devastated follower commented: "Awful news. My thoughts are with Mani and all his friends and family. Imelda, an events agent, was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in November 2020. Since then, she and her husband Mani have hosted several charity auctions to raise funds for The Christie Hospital, The Stockport Charitable Trust and Maggie's. Speaking previously about the fundraisers, Imelda said: "Both charities have supported me through my journey. Cancer affects not just the person who has it, but everyone around them, and I hope that by investing in some more research, we can help alleviate some of the devastation caused to families."

Their most recent auction took place in September at The Edwardian Radisson Hotel. It featured a range of items, including football boots worn by David Beckham and a signed snare drum head from Zak and Ringo Starr.

Before the auction, Imelda shared why she decided to donate proceeds from the latest auction to cancer support charity Maggie's. She said: "Maggie's charity has supported us from the start, with counselling and using resources to help explain to our children the enormity of cancer and its effects on the whole family. It's a continuing battle for me, and I'll be using their services more in the future."

Among those paying tribute to Imelda following the news of her passing included Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown who wrote: "RIP @imeldamounfield. GOD BLESS MANI and his boys X"

Happy Mondays drummer Gaz Whelan said: "Woke up to messages ...absolutely gutted..this time last year we were all together on holiday.... Like Mani says..Manchester music family we are one .... So loved the whole family..... PEACE xx".
