When Alan McKenna first appeared in Emmerdale back in April this year he was introduced to viewers as Rhona's ex husband Gus.
Sat in the Woolpack pub, it was made clear that his arrival was not welcomed judging by Rhona's expression on seeing on him. The couple had split after the strain of numerous rounds of IVF got too much and the break-up was acrimonious to say the least. After taking a phone call in the pub toilets it soon became clear that Gus needed Rhona's approval to use her embryos for his new wife. Fast-forward a few months and Gus returned to the ITV soap earlier this month, with his wife Lucy and bump into Marlon at the hospital - but this time Lucy is pregnant.

Gus surprisingly admitted to faking Rhona's consent by stealing her passport - and Marlon threatens to tell Rhona about what he had done. Emmerdale is certainly not the only soap that Alan has appeared in. He's also starred in Coronation Street, Doctors, Holby City, rival soap EastEnders and Waterloo Road. The actor played the role of Patrick McGuire in Doctors for 12 years between 2000 and 2012. Outside of soaps, Alan appeared in Doc Martin, DCI Banks, Midsomer Murders and The Bill.

Alan played Tony Andrews in EastEnders between 2006-2007. He played Albert Square favourite Bradley Branning's boss at Eichel Investment. His main purpose was to give Bradley a promotion and appeared again in 2007 when Stacey Slater's husband went for another job within the same company. But Tony's appearance was short-lived as he decided to relocate the company to Singapore and that was the last time he was seen.

The actor as villain Ronan Truman in Coronation Street (ITV)Alan played Ronan Truman for a year between 2017 and 2018 as a drug lord that Adam Barlow wanted to investigate. Adam hoped that he could reel Ronan in by selling him a large packet of drugs but their business deal took a dark turn as Ronan found out that Adam slept with his girlfriend, Trina.
Ronan threatened Adam and his family unless he paid him back the money from their illegal business deal. But Adam was unable to pay Ronan back his money and so was left battered and bruised following a beating by Ronan. In 2018 Ronan's son Cormac started working at the Bistro and became friends with Ryan Connor. Sadly, Cormac tragically died from a drug overdose. To make matters worse, Ronan realised that Ryan failed to call an ambulance and if he had done so, his son may have been saved.
In a bid to take revenge for his son's death, Ronan ploughed his car into Ryan as well as reversing into Leanne Battersby. Trying to leave, Ronan crashed into woodland and was impaled by a wooden post but that did not stop him from continuing to threaten Ryan and Ali. So, Ali pulls out the post making Ronan bleed to death.
