Mikel Arteta urged to sign Bayern Munich duo looking for "new challenge"

Former Arsenal ace Emmanuel Petit has called on Gunners boss Mikel Arteta to sign Bayern Munich duo Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka after suggesting the squad needs more experience.

Arsenal have started the new season strongly enough after coming close to a first league title since 2004 last term. Over the summer, the north Londoners spent more than £150million on Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber, as well as David Raya on loan.

We have not yet reached the January transfer window, but Petit feels that Arteta already needs to make further additions and has named the pair that can take the club to the next level. The Frenchman has made clear that for all of Arsenal's star talent, they would benefit from more senior players within the current crop.

Heading into the second international break of the season, Arteta's side sit second in the table one point behind reigning champions Manchester City. It is by no means a bad position to be in having already played City, Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea.

Despite this, Petit clearly feels that his old side needs more and has made clear who he thinks Arsenal should sign. The former France ace told Compare.Bet: "In my opinion, this is a team that needs experience.

"I know they want to buy young players with room to improve and I can understand that, but I think they need players that know how to win and have experience in big games.

Mikel Arteta urged to sign Bayern Munich duo looking for "new challenge"Arsenal have been told to sign Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich

"The main two players I would target if I was Arsenal would be Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka. They are both incredible players with huge experience who have both been at Bayern for a while and would maybe like a new challenge.

"Goretzka has played at such a high level for so long and is still only 28, and I think Kimmich would be great for Arsenal, even if the price tag may be a bit expensive."

If the Gunners were to pursue a move for either, they wouldn't be the first Premier League side touted with a transfer for the Bayern duo. Kimmich was recently linked to City with a view to becoming Ilkay Gundogan's successor. It's a similar story for Goretzka, who has long been the subject of interest from United.
