A pensioner was left stunned after an emu randomly knocked on her door in a town called Loose.

Maureen Roberts, 81, "couldn't believe it" when she received the bizarre doorbell notification near Maidstone, Kent.

She thought she was being pranked after her neighbour rang her to say that a huge bird was standing on her driveway. "I thought she was winding me up and I laughed it off," she said. "But it turned out she wasn't joking."

The doorbell managed to capture the hilarious moment when the Emu, named Rodney, walked up to her door. The video showed him prodding it with his beak and peering through the lens. The emu could then be seen kicking over a flower pot, reports Sky News. Later on, three people successfully rescued the animal and took him to safety. Ms Roberts said she was having lunch with her daughter when she heard about the animal's escape. She said: "My dog was at home in the front room at the time. I don't know what he would've thought seeing a giant bird like that."

Kent Police Tactical Operations posted two images from the rescue on Twitter. They wrote: "A slightly different call for [vehicles] SD14 & YA92 this afternoon. One Emu (Rodney) from the Maidstone area safely returned to his owners." One social media user commented: "This is brilliant." Rodney has since been reunited with his owner Sarah Stribbling-Williams, who was "delighted" to get him back. She explained that the animal escaped after one of her kids accidently let him out in the garden, reports BBC News.

Sarah said: "We have had him since he was a four-day-old chick. He's a very friendly and tame member of the family." She added: "He often comes in our house and if outside he will come and knock on the kitchen window for some treats. He spends his time with our seven children along with our others animals - dogs, cats, horses, chickens - and can often be found running round our garden with the dogs."
