A Coronation Street star has accidentally revealed the identity of the new Rovers Return landlord in a social media blunder.

Actress Claire Sweeney, who arrived in Weatherfield earlier this year as Cassandra Plummer, made the gaffe as she announced her involvement in the new series of Dancing On Ice. After posting a snap of herself with her dance partner Colin Grafton in front of the soap's pub, eagle-eyed viewers spotted a name above it's door which has seemingly given the game away.

Claire, who made her name on Brookside in the early 1990s, told her 130,000 followers: "The wait is over… Team Claire & Colin is here #dancingonice #coronationstreet." The 52-year old will be one of 11 celebrity faces taking to the rink when the ITV show kicks off in January.

Claire's news was met with excitement from her fans, meanwhile, with one responding: "Yes this is gonna be amazing can't wait for live shows." Another wrote: "Good luck. Can’t wait to watch you all on the show. It’s going to be great."

A third added: "Fabulous can’t wait to see you both in the ice." And a fourth said: "Oh my goodness that’s fantastic."

However, Claire has risked the wrath of Corrie bosses after some users pointed out the name behind her and Colin - none other than Jenny Connor. Played by Sally Ann Matthews, Jenny was previously the Rovers' landlady until its brewery changed hands and kicked her and her staff out with barely any warning.

Waterfords, who took control of the inn in September told her in a meeting after her final shift: "There wasn’t much control of the stock last night. You and your friends had pretty much drunk the place dry. You’re lucky we don’t bill you for the costs.

"Neither you nor any members of your staff will ever be employed by Waterfords ever again. And if I see you on the premises, I will call the police."

Speaking about her ice-skating challenge, meanwhile, Claire told the Sun : "I'm really looking forward to going to an ice rink with my son and actually being able to skate and not have to use the penguins they give you to help you stay upright!"
